Background

For those in recruitment serving construction businesses, it’s an open secret that timesheet is the mother of all problems. Payment delays, paying wrong workers, insufficient payments, or even workers failing to show up are largely stemmed from timesheet. This could be either workers fail to submit their timesheets, or managers fail to approve them on time. In addition to that, we learned that a big proportions of our target audience are still using paper based timesheets. After weeks of researching, we learn that lack trust is one of the main issues. It’s either the manager doesn’t have the trust with the submitted hours, or the workers doesn’t trust the clunkiness of the app they are using to submit the timesheets. As a result, agency consultants have to deal with this unnecessarily on weekly basis for something that can be straight forward between the workers and approvers.

We believe, the trust issue will get easier to deal with if we streamline the whole process - data entry, submission and approval - by removing the manual part involved i.e. paper based timesheets. We do that by introducing a mobile timesheet app that works much better than most of the existing one and fits to their daily routine. This will increase the trust from the worker to use it even more, reduce the likelihood for errors or delays in submission which therefore increases the adoption. Once the data is in our platform, we will make it easy for the everyone - workers, agency consultant and their clients - to solve if there is any problem that occurs because everything in our platform is tracked.

This post showcases some of the storyboards, sketches as well as high fidelity mocks developed for the early prototype circa 2016.

Prototype

Please try out the prototype.

I would be best to use your mobile to get the real feel. To give you an idea of what it does here is some of the roundup:

Day 1 shows you the basic entry and how to delete one.
Day 2 allows you to change hours
Day 3 lets add an overtime
Day 4 is the same as day 3
Day 5 gives you an opportunity to revisit each of the previous day before you submit it.
